Community Coalitions

Joining Hands Across Georgia

Each year the Suicide Prevention Program gathers all the active, developing and potential Suicide Prevention Coalitions in Georgia to learn how to create, grow and sustain Suicide Prevention, intervention and aftercare resources in their community.

You can find a list of Georgias current statewide and community Suicide Prevention Coalitions on the menu to the right. Feel free to contact the coalitions in your area and become active in these efforts! If you do not see a coalition in your area and would like to begin one, contact us at and we will connect you with these efforts or support your efforts in your own community!

Suicide Prevention Coalition of Georgia

After the completion of the Georgia Suicide Prevention Plan, the Steering Committee that had been formed dissolved, and the members that had been involved founded the statewide Suicide Prevention Coalition of Georgia. This coalition has been working together since 2002 to impact the crisis of suicide in Georgia. The SPCGeorgia is open to all who have an interest in the statewide suicide prevention efforts in Georgia.

As the need grew greater, it was clear that in order to coordinate efforts all over the state, it would be necessary to build Community Suicide Prevention Coalitions as well to create local awareness and education, and create a network of suicide prevention efforts around the state. That work was begun around the time that the Georgia's Suicide Prevention Program at the state in the Department of Human Resources, Public Health, Injury Prevention was established. Now this same work is being continued within the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Behavioral Prevention where the Suicide Prevention Program now resides.

There are Suicide Prevention Coalitions that are continuing to be established around the state. Feel free to contact the coalitions in your area and become active in these efforts!
